I officially declare The Golem to be one of FBF's career defining albums such as TOTY and DITS. I'm really, really happy to hear some instrumental variation again; and being a Tom Waits fan, you can't go wrong with Ralph Carney.
Favorite song at the moment? You're Gonna Pay (with vocals). There's just so much tension and build up through the entire track and FBF proves he can still scream like a maniac without being a poor imitation of his younger self.
On a somewhat related note, has anyone noticed all of the Black Francis albums seem to be very concept oriented? Herman Brood, demigods, sex, and the Golem. The only other example that comes close from before is BLD with its loose California theme.

Just ordered it this morning. I have very high expectations, considering the length of time this release has been on the "Pending" list, and the tracks I've heard. The YouTube videos are awesome.

Based on the YouTube videos, without the silence surrounding the tracks, and not counting any instrumentals, the studio version of The Golem clocks in at 56:14.

Le bureau recherche plus de personne de France qui peut accueillir un criblage de Golem à leur maison. Avez-vous quelques amis qui voudraient venir à votre partie de Golem ? Svp le bureaucrate : info@blackfrancis.net
The Bureau is looking for more person from France who is able to host a Golem screening at their house. Do you have some friends who would like to come to your Golem party? Please the Bureaucrat:

So the new thing is a shot at getting an advance copy of the DVD. Considering the entire set was supposed to be out by now, I'm surprised they're going this route, but it's nice to at least see some Golem-related activity. I don't feel like I can properly get excited for NSE until The Golem's release is finally a reality.
Considering everything FBF has up his sleeve though, we might be getting kind of spoiled soon. We have NSE and the new Grand Duchy albums coming up for sure. Maybe the Pete Yorn collaboration (and Trouble is a Lonesone Town? I actually have no idea if any of this got completed) will see the light of day as well as the long rumored Catholics boxset/Red Letter Days.
